PHILADELPHIA, PA, September 17, 2024—The Jacobs Levy Equity Management Center for Quantitative Financial Research at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania will examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the financial sector at its annual conference on Friday, September 20 in Jon M. Huntsman Hall on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus in Philadelphia.

“The world sits at a pivotal crossroads where generative AI is poised to fundamentally transform every sector of our society,” said Erika James, Dean of the Wharton School.  “Wharton is committed to leading conversations and fostering innovation in this space, through events like this one.”

“Generative artificial intelligence is an exciting new technology with great promise,” said Bruce Jacobs, chair of the Jacobs Levy Center Advisory Board. “The insights from our distinguished speakers will help our industry adapt and benefit.”

The conference will also feature a keynote session with Nobel Laureate Robert Shiller, the Sterling Professor Emeritus of Economics at Yale University, who will join remotely, and Jeremy Siegel, the Russell E. Palmer Professor Emeritus of Finance at Wharton.

“We look forward to an engaging conversation with Professors Shiller and Siegel on the markets and their current views of the economic outlook,” said Craig MacKinlay, Joseph P. Wargrove Professor of Finance at Wharton and co-academic director of the Jacobs Levy Center.

Additional sessions will feature papers that explore the use of ChatGPT to forecast stock price movements, how to leverage large language models to predict stock returns, and the use of natural language processing techniques to examine the behavior of investment managers. A panel of industry experts from Morgan Lewis, Goldman Sachs, and Vanguard will assess the future of AI in the financial sector in a discussion led by Sarah Hammer of Wharton.

“This year’s conference will serve as a forum for cutting-edge research and thought leadership at the intersection of artificial intelligence and quantitative finance,” said Chris Geczy, adjunct professor of finance at Wharton and co-academic director of the Jacobs Levy Center.
